About Our Female Gynaecologists

Dr Regina Ng

Dr Regina decided to become an Obstetrician and Gynaecologist as she enjoys being a part of the most significant events in a woman’s life – pregnancy, childbirth and menopause. She takes pride in empowering women to make informed decisions about their health by promoting awareness of important female health issues and disease prevention. Being the mother of two young children herself, she understands what mothers today must cope with and draws from her own experience to advocate natural childbirth and breastfeeding.

After graduating from the National University of Singapore (NUS), Dr Regina was trained at KK Women’s & Children’s Hospital (KKH) and National University Hospital. She is a Member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (United Kingdom) and Fellow of the Academy of Medicine (Singapore). Also, she is a member of the Obstetrical and Gynaecological Society of Singapore (OGSS).

Dr Regina has trained for many years in performing antenatal and gynaecological ultrasound scans, supporting natural childbirth, performing instrumental vaginal delivery (vacuum and forceps), caesarean section and managing patients with menstrual, fertility and menopausal problems. She is accomplished in performing keyhole (minimally invasive), abdominal as well as pelvic floor surgery. She is experienced with pre-invasive cervical disease and is a registered colposcopist with the Society for Colposcopy & Cervical Pathology of Singapore. She presented research papers at numerous international and local conferences and also has publications in the Singapore Medical Journal and KK Hospital Review. She has been a speaker at the OGSS Public Forum, addressing concerns on menopause and hormone replacement therapy.

She is dedicated to teaching medical undergraduates, having been a Clinical Teacher and Examiner for the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, NUS. In addition, she was Physician Faculty for the SingHealth O&G Residency Programme and Core Faculty for the SingHealth Transitional Year Residency Programme for which she was instrumental in developing the training curriculum. During her clinical practice days at KKH, she was the Education Supervisor for House Officers and also taught specialists-in-training. She was actively involved in setting benchmarks for clinical quality and improvement of healthcare services. Prior to leaving for private practice, she was in the Minimally Invasive Surgery unit.

In recognition of her outstanding service and compassion at KKH, she was bestowed with three Service From The Heart Awards, the national Excellent Service (EXSA) Award and the Singapore Health Quality Service Award and won accolades from trainee doctors and medical students.

Aside from medicine, Dr Regina enjoys Pilates and yoga. She was a prolific writer of poetry with her award-winning short stories published and play script read at TheatreWorks. These days, much to the delight of her little girls, Dr Regina's literary works centre on stories about fairy princesses and teddy bears.

Maternal serum screening is a blood test conducted between 15 and 20 weeks of pregnancy to aid in the risk assessment of Down Syndrome.

  • Why do I need a pap smear?

A routine pap smear is the most common screening method for detecting cervical cancer. It is a painless procedure that accurately detects over 90% of cervical cancers, even before symptoms develop. A speculum is first inserted into the vagina to properly visualize the cervix. Cells from the cervix and vagina are taken using a small brush to be examined for any abnormalities.
